Newmont drills deeper in Canada

AUSTRALIA-based Newmont Mining has entered into major contracts with Orbit Garant to provide diamond core drilling services to the Hope Bay Project in Canada.

The agreement will see Orbit complete specialised core drilling with three heli-portable drill rigs over a three-year period at the site, situated in Nunavut.

The Hope Bay belt is a flagship gold project on Canada’s Arctic coast. Mineralised zones found to date total 9 million ounces of gold, covering a 1,000 square kilometre area.

Construction is set to get underway later in 2008, and may be extended for a further three to five years.
