CSIRO Chief Executive, Dr Megan Clark says Australia's geoscience research capability will more than double when its latest ocean-going research vessel joins the national fleet in 2012.

The AU$120 million Commonwealth Government funded research vessel for the Marine National Facility will replace the Southern Surveyor.

Clark says the vessel opens new opportunities for science to contribute to the sustainable development and management of ocean resources for the benefit of future generations.
